The practice of Professional Otolaryngology Associates (POA) was founded in 1956 by August P. Ciell, M.D. in historic Haddonfield, New Jersey. As his practice grew, Dr. Ciell's reputation as a skilled clinician and surgeon grew. His patients loved him for his compassion. His colleagues respected his abilities and knowledge. Dr. Ciell treated both adults and children. In his later years of practice, the children he treated brought their children to see him. We now see their grandchildren.

The Haddonfield Speech and Hearing Center was founded in 1972 as a service of POA.  At that time, The Haddonfield Speech and Hearing Center was innovative and the first non-hospital based center of its kind in southern New Jersey. The Haddonfield Speech and Hearing Center was later renamed the Ciell Institute for Hearing and Speech in honor of Dr. Ciell at the time of his retirement.  In 2005, the Ciell institute joined Atrium Speech and Hearing Center to become HearMD

As the specialty of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery advanced, so did the practice of Professional Otolaryngology Associates. A second office was opened in Voorhees, N.J. in 1986. In 1998 the third office was opened in Sicklerville, N.J. Our most recent location opened in Mt. Laurel in 2008.  Our staff has also grown and now includes seven board certified otolaryngologists and head and neck surgeons, three audiologists, three hearing aid dispensers, a certified nurse practitioner and two certified speech pathologists.

Perhaps the most exciting thing to have affected our practice occurred in 2003.  Professional Otolaryngology Associates and Associates in Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery, based in Woodbury, N.J.,  joined together forming Regional Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Associates, LLC (ROHNA).  This merger has allowed us to better serve our patients by being able to offer a wider range of services and at the same time practice more efficiently.

We are proud of the fact that, as a team, we have been able to provide highly skilled and comprehensive services to so many patients in the South Jersey area for so many years.
